The wash day ritual

How we wash hair in the salon — the order, the timings and the small habits that make the difference.

Most hair problems we see are not product problems. They are habit problems: too much heat, too little water, treatments rinsed out before they have had time to work.

Start with water warm enough to open the hair, never hot. Shampoo at the scalp only, twice if the hair is coated in product or sun cream, and let the lather travel down the lengths on its own as you rinse.

Condition mid-lengths to ends, and leave it for at least a minute. That minute is the whole point. Once a week, replace it with a mask and give it ten.

Detangle with a wide-tooth comb while the conditioner is still in, from the ends upward. Then a leave-in, then heat protection, then — only then — the dryer.
